Wine of the Week: 2013 Acacia Vineyards Pinot Noir

January 31, 2015

Acacia Vineyards has a longstanding presence in Napa, especially for their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. I’ve had many previous vintages of Acacia Pinot but hadn’t tried any recently because the winery hasn’t received the most stellar ratings for their regular bottling of Pinot. Their higher end wines have received great ratings but many of them command a price of 40 bucks or more.
I recently purchased the 2013 regular Acacia Pinot for 12 bucks at Costco, way below retail price for the wine and decided to give it a shot (you can also find this wine at Total Wines). This wine gets you a ton of bang for the buck. The fruit from this wine comes from the Carneros region which is a maritime region essentially between Sonoma County and Napa County.
The 2013 Acacia is a classic California Pinot with ripe fruit and some restraint. If you like the richness of California Pinot Noir, this is a great choice for you. This is a brand new release of the wine, so it hasn’t been rated yet my the major wine publications to my knowledge. If you haven’t had much California Pinot, think Oregon Pinot on steroids, with richer cherry pie fruit flavors. Here is my pick for wine of the week, 2013 Acacia Pinot Noir.

2013 Acacia Pinot Noir- Made from Carneros fruit. Strawberry and raspberry on the nose with dried herbs. Palate has cherry pie, raspberry, strawberry and guava flavors. Balanced, with nice minerality. Drink now. -91
